Frequently, Infrequently, or Theoretically Asked Questions

Do I need to have done yoga before?

No, we welcome beginners and will try to offer explanations, options and variations to accommodate everyone.

Do I need to be young, strong, fit or flexible?

No, it's not a boot camp and we don't care what anyone looks like! We may encourage you to try some new things or challenge yourself a bit, but no one will try to make you do anything you don't want to do. Nor will we judge you if you want to rest or do something different. In addition, the less flexible you are to start with, the more yoga can increase your flexibility, as well as helping gradually build strength and supporting your mental wellbeing.

What clothes should I wear?

Whatever you want, but ideally something loose and/or stretchy, for example shorts, T-shirt, leggings, etc. You don't need to look like you've just stepped out of some sort of yoga clothing model photo-shoot.

Can I change there?

Yes. There aren't changing rooms as such, but there is a decent-sized disabled loo in which you can get changed if you don't want to come and go in your yoga gear. There aren't any lockers but there is plenty of space in the room we will be using for the yoga so we'd suggest to put your clothes and any valuables into a bag and bring them in with you.

Do I need to bring any equipment?

You don't actually need much to do yoga. If you have your own mat and other yoga equipment (e.g. blocks and straps) which you normally use, please bring it if you can. We will have a few spare mats, blocks and straps at the venue which you are welcome to use on a first-come, first-served basis. If you come regularly, we can advise on equipment you may want to obtain.

What if I have an injury, illness or condition?

We will ask at the start of each class about anything that may affect your practice so that we can try to offer advice, adjustments and variations. If you have a condition which makes you uncertain whether you should come, please contact us in advance. Please note we are not qualified to teach pregnancy yoga but can suggest other places that are.

What language will you teach in?

The classes will be taught in English. We may occasionally refer to yoga postures or other concepts by their Sanskrit names but will explain in English what they mean. Agnese also speaks Italian and Deniece can use British Sign Language.

Will I have to chant or do other weird stuff?

The classes will mostly be based on physical postures to build flexibility, strength, alignment and confidence. We may occasionally offer some chanting, breathing exercises, or other things that may be considered "weird stuff" by those unfamiliar with yoga, usually at the start or end of a class. But we'll be very friendly and accommodating about it. We'll explain what we're doing, and you can choose to join what you are comfortable with or just observe. There will be no judgement or expectation around who chooses to join in with what.

What happens if I have booked and can't come?

Just let us know as soon as you can that if you can't make it to class, and we will make the space available to another student. We may be able to offer a refund, less processing fees, or transfer your booking to another week.

What if I am late getting to the class?

We will have to lock the main door to the halls when the class starts. But if you get there late and knock (loudly) on the door or the window we should be able to let you in.

What if I can't afford to pay for classes?

While we do need to cover our costs we'd also like to operate on a NOTAFLF basis: No One Turned Away For Lack Of Funds

Please contact us if you'd like to discuss this.
